since the turn of the decade token has by and large been an exclusive platform for the music of inigo kennedy, ¥ phase and ctrls. the belgian label has, however, remained on point by putting out formidable productions by rich oddie & ancient methods eschaton project, german powerhouse r¢dhåd and spanish heavy weights oscar mulero and christian wünsch as spherical coordinates, to some intercontinental fare by xhin and go hiyama. token, an iron clad operation continuously manufacturing unyielding techno, has always, deep within its impenetrable shell, had a soft spot for british techno. and following a reissue of mark brooms two, maintaining the glacial release rate of rodz-konez legend makaton, and welcoming surgeon to its fold with the thunderous fixed action pattern 12inch, the belgian label seeks out some fresh uk blood by inviting james shaw, aka sigha, to debut on the label with a stylistically sleek and suitably booming 12inch, our father / a better way of living.

jamie lidell is a british vocalist, producer and warp recording artist with a string of intelligent, soulful electronic albums under his belt.a: new eyes b: seye wen... the vinyl factory has partnered american multi-media artist doug aitken and the barbican to bring his acclaimed station to station: a 30 day happening to the uk for a month-long. for the duration of the event, which features residencies, installations, live performances, workshops, screenings and more, the vinyl factory has created the vinyl factory recording studio to provide a space for musicians and artists to experiment and improvise and has installed the vinyl factory press on-site to manufacture these recordings into vinyl editions.

carl finlow could be regarded as one of the cornerstones of not only 20/20 vision, but also of british electronic music. his boundary pushing, electro-tinged productions under the random factor alias make for essential 20/20 listening, as does his work as 1/4 of 2020soundsystem. while this year has been about looking to the future of the label, we also felt it was important that we looked deep into our history and revisited one of our all time classic records: random factor – broken mirror. on the a side carl has prepared a new ‘revisted’ version for this release and this is accompanied by the original version from 1999. for the remixer we thought long and hard about someone we felt would be suitable. someone with pedigree in the electro scene, who would feel as passionate as we do about making this release something truly special. there was only really one person we wanted and luckily when we contacted legowelt he was a big fan of the original track and was super keen to get onboard the project. we hope you enjoy these two pioneers of the electro scene going head to head x

”love will remember pharaon de winter” is said at the end of the record. pharaon de winter was a painter from north of france, who lived from the end of the xixth century to the beginning of the xxth century. today, pharaon de winter is reappearing again. it’s a band, but also the name of a song, which changed everything for his author. past leader of both bands toy fight and (please), maxime chamoux was playing since now a genre between north american rock of spoon and neutral milk hotel, and sophisticated british pop from prefab sprout or xtc. we find today in this new project songs navigating between french, for most part, and english. partners and friends since a long time, thomas pirot at the drums and raphael ankierman at the bass are playing alongside fx guéant-mata at the guitar. we also find mina tindle and her delicate voice appearing here and there. at last we don’t forget the goldsmith’s talent of canadian musician sandro perri who’s joining the band, highly recommended by pitchfork magazine with his album impossible spaces in 2011.

the first release from the new malka tuti record label introduces us to xen, a multi talented multi cultural singer, artist and designer from tel aviv. for her debut ep she went into the studio with the red axes lads to produce 2 original tracks for the a side as well as 2 different versions on the b side. after already collaborating with them on their track -this is it- for a correspondant records compliation on 2014, this time she takes a step forward and really brings out her post-cold-wave-some-wave attitude and delivers 2 psychedelic poppy tracks, highly influenced by german krautrock as well as british and french post-punk and israeli late 80s new-wave. on the b-side you can find a massive dancefloor remix from the red axes themselves as well as a secret psychedelic voodoo b-side.

this summer sees british producer james barnsley, a resident at the legendary back to basics in leeds, launch his vessel records imprint with a release from himself featuring scan mode and a remix from daze maxim.

this time, they have collaborated with british producer and songwriter brolin, who has written a heart melting vocal for this release. as the lyrics and melody swirl across an uplifting instrumental, it becomes obvious that lost n free is the soundtrack for those introspective, early morning moments. the b side, doin it takes the release underground with its pulsing synths and piano stabs that gradually build over contagious basslines and swung drum hits.

haunted doorbell are timothy j. fairplay and matilda tristram who released xylophone together last year on astro lab recordings. picking up where xylophone left off unconnected thoughts on jacking is four tracks of naive melodies, rough slamjack drums, and new age atmospheres. starclash kicks off side a, with its dramatic arpeggios and sid chip crashes, techno to soundtrack the saturday night laser show at the planetarium. following is a night of adventure with its eastern scales and washy broken chorus unit hiss. on side b we have beautiful sheffield - an ode to electronic musics (possibly) most important british city and the title track rounds of the ep - house music for listening to while looking out to sea.

portion control is a british electronic and industrial band from south london. the trio of john whybrew, ian sharp and dean piavani started out experimenting with electronics in 1980. linking up with in phaze records, they released a number of cassettes and records before signing with illuminated records in 1983. there followed a series of classic 12inch singles: raise the pulse, rough justice and go-talk, which have become underground dancefloor hits. the band classifies their music style as >hard rhythmic electronics< and were a major influence on skinny puppy, front line assembly and depeche mode.

british powerhouse alan fitzpatrick returns to figure with his second ep on the label after 2009 s weed killer / science . since then its clear that alan has continued on a dedicated, valiant quest to find his own sound, and the results are on show here, with a heavyweight, emotive and futuristic techno three-tracker. like a warm rush of endorphins on the summer breeze, alan s rich up-building sound is perfectly represented in tracks like a subtle change , with its jubilant stab-led melody, or the modern club-weapon vibes of trigger finger . harking back to late 90s uk idm and proper dub-techno atmospheres, fitzpatrick then gracefully crafts a down-tempo, space-out version of a subtle change for the b-side, providing the afterhours sessioners with a new buzz-track.

bass culture delivers a fresh new ep featuring three classic cuts remastered for 2015. selected by label head d julz, bass cultures 44th release comes from british producer mark ambrose, owner of cult outlet crayon.

from ben thomas aka bnjmn comes an entirely new and different project, brack. following a string of excellent releases for the likes of rush hour and delsin, the berlin-based british producer has launched his own imprint. its inaugural release promises to simultaneously satisfy long-time listeners, and throw them for a loop.

the detroit music community has outposts in nearly every major city, and vancouver, british columbia is no exception. this ep represents the connection of two such artists, detroit native, josh garrett, who currently resides in vancouver and runs the subspec label, and rennie foster, a stalwart of the underground, who has spent a quarter of his life in tokyo, but born in bc and now living back there, in vancouver. rennie has released on a myriad of detroit labels, such as transmat, teknotika, soiree, subject detroit, wallshaker, and motech. josh and rennie met in vancouver, only since rennies recent return, and realizing they were of the same tribe, immediately began to collaborate on a number of projects, now including this limited run, double a-side, record, chalk full of dj friendly techno trax, firmly rooted in the motor city sound, yet unique enough to be a contributor, not just another imitator.
